Goal Five

UALR will maintain and support the human resources and infrastructure necessary to support its mission and vision.

Objective 1

UALR will recruit and support faculty and staff in support of its vision and mission.

Strategy 1: UALR will hire and compensate faculty in alignment with its fundamental commitment to student success, research, and diversity.

Tactic 1: UALR will design search processes for faculty positions to attract a diverse pool of candidates who demonstrate a fundamental commitment to student success and significant potential for achievement in research.
Tactic 2: UALR will reward its faculty appropriately as evidenced by compensation at or above Southern Regional Education Board averages. Compensation includes salary, benefits and professional development opportunities.
Tactic 3: UALR will draft and implement a roles and rewards document for part-time faculty that is vetted and endorsed by the Faculty Senate in the next five years.

Strategy 2: UALR will hire and support staff in alignment with its fundamental commitments to student success and diversity.

Tactic 1: UALR will design its search processes for staff positions to attract a diverse pool of candidates who demonstrate a fundamental commitment to student success.
Tactic 2: UALR will compensate its staff at salaries which are competitive in the central Arkansas region. Compensation includes salary and benefits.

Strategy 3: Provide appropriate resources to support faculty in their pursuit of high-quality learning, including funding for library resources and specialized facilities, e.g., greenhouse, and faculty engagement with professional colleagues in their fields.

Strategy 4: Expand system for honoring excellent learning environments including non-monetary recognition.

Strategy 5: Expand faculty professional development opportunities focused on teaching and learning, including opportunities dedicated to integration of service learning opportunities, the incorporation of research experiences in the undergraduate learning environment, etc.

Objective 2

UALR will maintain and support the infrastructure necessary to support its mission and vision and to maintain an instructional environment conducive to high quality, educational experiences using cutting edge technology.

Strategy 1: Explore, pilot, assess, and, as appropriate, adopt new technologies and other instructional resources that support high-quality, cutting-edge educational experiences.

Strategy 2: Design and implement a campus-wide instructional technology structure which promotes cross-campus collaboration in such areas as software review, instructional design, joint purchases, etc.

Strategy 3: Integrate consistently upgraded and appropriate instructional technology into the learning environment and provide the professional development necessary to maximize the use of the technology.

Strategy 4: UALR will stay abreast of and implement best practices in facilities management, capital improvement, construction programs, sustainability efforts, and design standards that foster a safe, functional, attractive, and accessible campus environment and will complete a comprehensive assessment of deferred maintenance needs with a timeline and financing plan for addressing those needs.

Strategy 5: UALR will implement a technology replacement plan by identifying a dedicated funding stream to accommodate the consistent upgrading of the campus technical infrastructure.

Objective 3

UALR will support its mission and vision through a comprehensive branding campaign.

Objective 4

UALR will secure funding to support its priorities from private, public, sponsored research and tuition/fees resources.

Strategy 1: UALR will practice cost containment initiatives, resource reallocation, and reconcile available resources to meet strategic priorities.

Objective 5

UALR will maintain a safe campus environment.

Strategy 1: UALR will re-evaluate all initiatives that were recommended in the Chancellor’s Special Committee on Campus Safety Report and prioritize and/or delete the initiatives that have not been completed and focus on completing the revised initiatives that remain.

Strategy 2: The UALR Department of Public Safety will achieve accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). This achievement will add a level of distinctiveness and recognition for the level of training and expertise that the department displays.

Strategy 3: UALR will maintain an emergency campus alert system and promote participation in the program.
