The University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR) invites applications for the position of Dean of the Graduate School (R97229). The Graduate School dean serves as a member of the university leadership team with direct reporting to the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost. This 12-month position is an administrative appointment with a competitive salary and benefits package commensurate with qualifications and experience.
In keeping with its longstanding urban mission, UALR has a diverse student body of almost 12,000 and an impressive record of student success. UALR, classified as a “doctoral/research” institution by the Carnegie Foundation, is Arkansas’s premier metropolitan university and offers baccalaureate, master’s, and doctoral degrees across more than thirty departments in five degree-granting colleges and a law school.
The UALR Graduate School (http://ualr.edu/gradschool/) operates as the central administrative unit providing leadership, coordination, and services for graduate students, who make up almost 16% of the student population. Together with the individual graduate programs, departments, colleges, and the Graduate Council, the Graduate School shares responsibility for program development, management, promotion, and review of more than 90 doctoral, master’s, and graduate certificate programs. The Graduate School admissions staff processes applications, handles enrollment questions, and maintains student records. The Graduate School staff also manages the graduate assistantship program, produces academic and promotional materials, assists with recruiting and marketing efforts, provides logistics support for the Graduate Council, and facilitates the Graduate Student Association (GSA).
The university seeks candidates with distinguished professional achievements, a proven capacity for intellectual leadership and building consensus, and a thorough understanding of UALR’s teaching and research missions. Candidates should hold a terminal degree from an accredited institution in one of the university’s academic program areas, have demonstrated successful graduate level teaching and research experience, be eligible for an appointment at the professor level with tenure, and have a record of successful administrative experience.
UALR is seeking an experienced visionary and entrepreneurial leader with excellent communication skills. Other preferred characteristics include: demonstrated ability to build, direct, and promote UALR’s graduate programs with industry, state, and federal organizations, and the general community; ability to foster collaborations between diverse stakeholders; experience in facilitating faculty development; experience in promoting student success with regard to recruitment, retention, and graduation; and, ability to support the creation of innovative and relevant graduate programs.
