Dean, Graduate School

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR) invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the Graduate School. The incumbent will provide leadership in all aspects of operation of the Graduate School and advance the school’s mission. Reporting to the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost, the dean will work collaboratively with the graduate program coordinators, the other deans, and the chancellor to develop and implement the school’s and university’s strategic plans and other institutional goals. This is a 12-month administrative appointment.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create a graduate education development plan for UALR consistent with our vision.
  • Advocate for graduate programs, graduate faculty, students, and stakeholders in the community of Central Arkansas.
  • Support the recruitment, retention, and overall success of graduate students.
  • Support graduate faculty development.
  • Support graduate coordinators with regard to the planning, development, and management of graduate programs.
  • Create and review policies related to graduate programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Experienced visionary and entrepreneurial leader with excellent communication skills;
  • Experience in directing and building graduate education;
  • Experience in facilitating faculty development and promoting student success;
  • Ability to create innovative and relevant graduate programs;
  • Ability to promote UALR’s graduate programs internally and externally with industry, state, and federal organizations, and the general community;
  • Ability to direct and build graduate education;
  • Ability to foster graduate education collaborations and interaction of diverse individuals among the units of the institution;
  • Ability to facilitate faculty development and promoting student success;
  • Ability to use customer service initiatives to clients and campus community;
  • Ability to create innovative and relevant graduate programs;

Required Education and/or Experience

Candidates should hold a terminal degree from an accredited institution in one of the university’s academic program areas, have demonstrated successful graduate level teaching and research experience, and be eligible for an appointment at the professor level with tenure.

Preferred Education and/or Experience

Candidates should have a record of successful administrative experience including personnel supervision/leadership and budgetary authority.
