Instructions for processing associate degrees from private Arkansas or out-of-state institutions:

  1. Records and Registration
Transcripts from Arkansas private and out-of-state institutions with an Associate degree awarded are processed according to standard policies and procedures by Records and Registration. Only courses with grades of “C” or better will be transcripted.
  2. University College

Transcripts with a posted Associate degree are reviewed by academic advisors in University College utilizing the Core Transfer Form for Arkansas Private Institutions and Out-of-State Institutions.

    Academic Advisor

    1. Does the Associate degree contain at least 60 hours?
      • If no, mark and sign the form “Transferred Associate degree does not satisfy UALR core: degree does not include 60 hours. Use the standard core transfer form instead to articulate the transfer courses on a course-by-course basis.
    2. Does the distribution of 44 hours of courses satisfy UALR’s core requirements?
      • If yes, mark and sign the form “Associate degree satisfies UALR’s core”. However, inform the student that only up to 6 hours of D grades can be accepted. Those courses will not appear on the student’s transcript until he or she files a D Transfer Request Form, signed by an academic advisor and sent to Records and Registration. Also, inform the student that courses with D grades in excess of 6 hours may satisfy the core requirement but the student will not receive credit/transfer hours for those courses. In fact, the student may be required to retake those courses if the course is required as a prerequisite. The same restrictions apply to CLEP or credit by exam awarded by another institution.
      • If no, indicate on the form which additional courses are required in order to satisfy UALR’s 44 hour pattern distribution and notify the student that it is his or her responsibility to notify their academic advisor when the additional courses have been completed. If the academic advisor is unable to determine whether a transfer course satisfies the core requirement, highlight the course(s) in question on the form and on the transcript, attach copies of all of the student’s transcripts and forward the information to the chair of the Admissions and Transfer Committee.
  3. Records and Registration
When the form is signed by an Academic Advisor or the Chair of the Admissions and Transfer Committee indicating that the transferred Associate degree satisfies UALR’s core curriculum requirements, provide a note on CAPP to that effect. If the signed form indicates that the student needs to complete additional courses in order to satisfy the 44 hour distribution, mark those requirements as not satisfied in CAPP.
