How do I apply for admission to UALR?

When do I need to apply for admission?
- For non-freshmen students, UALR will accept applications until the last day of regular registration for the term. Students are encouraged to apply early so they can benefit from advising and pre-registration opportunities. First time freshmen and freshmen transfer students will have an earlier deadline. Please refer to the Entering Freshmen FAQ
When is the scholarship deadline?
- Priority deadline for scholarships is February 1.
How do I apply for scholarships?
- Students applying for scholarships based on ACT/SAT test scores should submit application for admission, application for scholarship, and test scores by February 1.
- Chancellor’s Leadership Corp applicants should submit counselor’s letter of recommendation, scholarship application, and application for admission by February 1.
- Shelby Breedlove Transfer Scholarship applicants should submit transfer scholarship application, application for admission, and transcript by February 1.
- Note: Eligibility does not guarantee an award. Award levels are determined annually based on eligible applicants and available funding.
How do I check my application status?
- Use your UALR Trojan number and PIN to logon to the Secure Area at http://boss.ualr.edu and click on Student Services, then click on Admissions.
Can I register for classes before I am fully admitted?
- That depends. If you are a freshman or freshman transfer you will need to meet admissions standards to be cleared for registation. For non-freshman students - yes, as a provisional student you are eligible for registration during the open registration period of each semester.
- Incoming Freshmen and Freshmen Transfer students must submit credentials before they will be cleared for regsitration. Please review the admissions standards.
- Note: You must be fully admitted to a degree-seeking program before receiving any form of financial aid.
How do I sign up for orientation?
- Once a student has registered for classes, the Office of Campus Life will mail information about orientation dates and an invitation to orientation.
How do I sign up for advising?
- Once a student has been fully admitted, the Office of Admissions & Financial Aid will send an acceptance letter. Upon receipt of that letter, students can call the Office of Academic Advising 569-3386 to set up an appointment.
Does UALR have on-campus housing? How do I apply?

What are the advantages of prospective freshmen applicants applying early?
- Students who apply for admission early can participate in advising, pre-registration, and orientation activities. Also, scholarships are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.
What information should be included when submitting an application?
- Freshman: Final high school transcripts or GED scores, ACT/SAT scores, immunization records.
- Transfer: Final transcripts from all institutions attended, immunization records.
- Freshman Transfer: Final high school transcripts or GED scores, ACT/SAT scores, immunization records, and final transcripts from all institutions attended.
- Temporary: Immunization records
- High School Concurrent: Current high school transcript, letter of permission from parent/guardian, letter of permission from instructor, immunization records.
- Transient: Letter of good standing from current institution.
- Post-Baccalaureate: Transcript from degree-granting institution, immunization records.

- Senior Citizens: Proof of age (aged 60 and above).
- Information about Proof of Immunization can be found online.

How can I get on UALR’s mailing list and receive information such as campus previews, applications and scholarship information?
Is there a minimum high school GPA, SAT or ACT required for admission?
- UALR uses a combination of GPA, SAT or ACT scores for class placement and scholarship eligibility. There are minimum scores required for freshmen and freshmen transfer students. Please review the admissions standards.
If I have taken classes at another university or community college, will I receive credit for these classes if I am admitted to UALR?
- Yes, UALR accepts credits with a C grade or higher from regionally accredited institutions.
Is it more difficult to be admitted to UALR if you are an out-of-state applicant?
- No, out-of-state applicants must meet the same admission criteria as in-state applicants.
How will you notify me regarding a decision on my application?
- The Office of Admissions & Financial Aid will mail an acceptance letter once you have been fully admitted.
When will I receive my UALR email account?
- UALR email accounts are created within 24 hours of class registration. For more information, contact Computing Services 501-569-3345.

How may I obtain information about various programs available to freshmen at UALR?
- UALR offers an award-winning First-Year Experience program. Students can enroll in this program during their freshman year.
What information do I need to submit if I am home-schooled?
- A home-school transcript of courses taken or GED scores, ACT/SAT scores and immunization records.

Will I need to complete developmental coursework?
- If you do not meet the following criteria, you will need to complete developmental courses.
- RHET 1311 Composition I: A minimum ACT English score of 19 or a minimum SAT I verbal score of 470 is required for enrollment in RHET 1311 Composition I. RHET 0310 Composition Fundamentals, is offered for students who do not meet the minimum requirement for Composition I.
- MATH 1302 College Algebra or MATH 1315 College Mathematics
- Enhanced mathematics ACT score of 19 or ACT Elementary Algebra subscore of 10.
- Mathematics SAT score of 510.
- Meet prerequisites for MATH 0301 and score of 63 on the College Level Mathematics Test

May I take classes at UALR while I am still in high school?
- Yes, high school students who meet one of the following requirements are eligible to enroll as a high school concurrent at UALR.
- Complete at least 50% of the state-recommended college preparatory courses with a minimum GPA of 2.5, or
- Achieve a minimum overall high school GPA of 3.0, or
- Achieve a minimum composite score of 21 on the ACT.
What courses will transfer to UALR?
- UALR accepts credits with a C grade or higher from regionally accredited institutions.

How can I take a class if I am not seeking a degree?
- Apply for admission as a temporary student at http://boss.ualr.edu.
Are students eligible for financial aid and scholarships at the university when they transfer?
- Students transferring from an Arkansas 2-year institution with a minimum GPA of 3.25 and at least 60 hours are eligible to apply for the Shelby Breedlove Transfer Scholarship.

What kind of student life activities does UALR offer? How do I get involved?
- UALR sponsors around 100 campus organizations of all types – the Student Government Association and the University Program Council, which schedules on-campus concerts and comedians, lectures, and multicultural events; six national sororities and six national fraternities; service organizations; honor societies, including Phi Kappa Phi; special interest clubs such as the Society of Physics Students and the Ham Radio Club, and more.

How do I get a copy of my GED scores?
- You will need to send this form back to the Arkansas GED testing service at the address indicated on the form.
