Scholarship Enrollment and Renewal Requirements

All scholarship recipients must complete 15 hours per semester/30 hours total during fall and spring semesters. First-time freshmen may take 12 hours their first fall semester following high school graduation and 15 hours every semester after that. First-year total during fall and spring semesters can be 27. Students must maintain a 3.00 cumulative GPA each academic year (2.00 for Freshman Award). Entering freshmen scholarship recipients must enroll, attend, and pass all required developmental courses within their first 30 attempted hours to obtain scholarship renewal. The scholarship will pay for four academic years (excluding summer terms) if students meet renewal criteria. Scholarships can only be used for coursework required for a first bachelor’s degree, except for the Economic Impact Scholarship. The Shelby Breedlove Scholarship will pay only two academic years (excluding summer). Students who are placed on academic probation will lose their award immediately.

Scholarship Service and Course Requirements

Some scholarships require additional obligations. EAST Scholars must work 15 hours per week in the EAST/EIT lab to fulfill their service requirement. EIT scholars are required to work 10 hours per week in the EIT Student Services Lab (freshmen year only). Both EAST and EIT Scholars must successfully complete the first-year experience requirement. Chancellor’s Leadership Corps recipients must complete 15 hours of service learning per semester/30 hours per year and successfully complete PEAW 1124 and 2124 first year. Science Scholar freshmen must successfully complete the Science Skills course in the first year.

Scholarship Renewal Appeal Process

A one-time “Forgiveness Option” allows students to make up GPA or credit hour deficiencies during the summer only at UALR before the next fall semester. Students must pay for course(s) and succeed in earning the renewal requirements necessary before the scholarship will be renewed. Once this has been done, contact the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid by Aug. 15 for review.
