Alpha Sigma Lambda National Honor Society recognizes the special achievements of adults who accomplish academic excellence while facing competing interests of home and work. The society was established at Northwestern University in 1945-46, and presently has over 200 institutional chapters within the United States. Since receiving its charter in the spring of 1995, the Kappa Nu Chapter at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock has inducted 370 adult students into Alpha Sigma Lambda.

A student must satisfy the following criteria for election to membership:

• A student must be enrolled in an undergraduate program at UALR and have a minimum of 24 graded semester hours, excluding developmental courses. Twenty-four graded semester hours must be earned at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

• At least 12 of a student’s total credits should be earned in the Liberal Arts/Sciences. Accepted transfer courses may be used to meet this requirement.

• Members shall be selected from the highest ten percent of her/his represented classes (with a minimum GPA of 3.2).

• A student must be 25 years old or older.

Students who meet the criteria will receive a letter inviting them to apply for membership.   A student initiation fee of $37.50 is required for membership.  An induction ceremony is held every spring. For more information, contact asap@ualr.edu, or call the Office of Campus Life, Adult Student Advocacy at 569-3370.

The Alpha Sigma Lambda Adult Education Foundation offers eight scholarships nationwide each spring, and the applications will be made available in the Office of Campus Life, Donaghey Student Center 216. Kappa Nu chapter participates as a Triangle Club, which allows two applicants from UALR in the national pool.  Applicants do not have to be members of ASL to be considered for scholarship money.
When graduation day arrives, ASL members may wear honor cords as a part of their regalia.  The cords are available for purchase from the Adult Student Advocate at a cost of $20.00 payable by check or money order only.
