Adult Student Advocacy

Prospective Students

I’m afraid that I am too old.

Older students tend to have stronger motivations. They have a special eagerness to learn which enables them to put forth the effort to succeed.

I didn’t do well the first time; I’m not certain how I’ll do now.

You’re not the same person you were in high school. The experiences of adult life make you a well-rounded individual, a definite advantage in the classroom!

To tell you the truth, even though I’m very successful at work, I’m nervous about going to college.

As with anything new and unknown, the college environment can be quite intimidating. The Adult Student Advocacy Program (ASAP) will provide the information and assistance you need to make the transition. It won’t take long.

I never did well on tests, and I’m concerned over how well I’ll do now.

There are resources on campus available to you such as workshops on test anxiety and counselors who will assist you in learning strategies to succeed.

I’m concerned that the instructors will not accept me.

The majority of the faculty state that adult students are experienced, inquisitive and motivated, and as a result, perform well in their classes.
