Collaboration

There is much work to be done at UALR to improve the success of our students.  As such, we pursue collaborative opportunities regularly.  Some notable highlights of our partnerships since February 2011 are as follows:

Explore the Majors.  This is an initiative that was initially funded by Educational Student Services.  Recognizing that attending the University begins first with “the academic conversation”; we created this event to highlight this conversation.  This is now an annual event that will be held in the earlier part of the Spring semester and provides exploratory students with the opportunity to directly engage (if they have not already) with Faculty and Staff for their intended major.  Representatives of across all six of Colleges are present at this event, and the Departments present are inclusive of the academic interests of UALR’s exploratory students.

Recruitment.  Recognizing that new prospective students are best served when they have an opportunity to visit with their Academic Advisor earlier on, we work with our Recruitment & Retention Office to contact students proactively.  Earlier contacts provide our students with the opportunity to better transition from the high-school environment to the University environment.

Transfer Services.  Academic Advising has and continues to work closely with the Office of Transfer Services.  Over the last year, both offices have taken steps to streamline some internal operations that were affecting UALR’s Transfer Students.  As a result of this collaboration, our transfer students now have a smoother and more efficient in-take process at UALR.

International Student Services.  Academic Advising has and continues to work closely with International Student Services.  Over the last year, both offices are discussing steps that can be taken to streamline some internal operations so that our international students will have a smoother and more efficient in-take process at UALR.

Since we initiated our many changes in Advising, we have had the pleasure of partnering with many groups on campus.  As a part of that, we were also fortunate in receiving tremendous feedback on how we could improve the services that were offered in Advising.  This feedback was (and will continue to be) taken into account.  We thank all who have helped Advising evolve and improve over the past year and look forward to future collaborations on this campus.
