Mission
Academic Advising is a developmental process, dynamic and interactive, by which students are assisted in the clarification and selection of educational, career and personal goals. This approach encourages students to develop decision making skills and assume responsibility for their actions and plans.
Our mission within University College is to assist all incoming undergraduate students in collaboration with the Educational Service units of UALR by facilitating student’s academic choices, academic adjustment to the University and personal development. We strive to continuously improve the quality of services to all students and our collaborative relationships within the University community. We believe and practice the tenets of being responsive to ever-changing needs, accessible to those we serve and motivated by the pursuit of excellence in all we do.
Core Values of Academic Advising*
- Advisors are responsible to the individuals they advise.
- Advisors are responsible for involving others, when appropriate, in the advising process.
- Advisors are responsible to their institutions. Advisors are responsible to higher education.
- Advisors are responsible to their educational community.
- Advisors are responsible for their professional practices and for themselves personally.
*These core values were identified by the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) to provide a framework against which academic advising professionals can measure their own performance. NACADA is an organization of professional advisors, faculty, administrators, students and others from a variety of settings who do academic advising or otherwise work to promote the quality of academic advising on college and university campuses. As a member of this organization and/or the profession of academic advising, UALR advisors must recognize their responsibility not only to students and the institutions in which the service is performed, but to society, to colleagues, and to self as well.
