The UALR Bailey Alumni and Friends Center has created a place for alumni and friends to call home. Constructed as one of the premier alumni centers in the county, the Bailey Alumni and Friends Center provides a remarkable venue for gatherings. It has been been host to many board meetings, community events and company retreats since it’s opening in 2001. Located on the campus of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock the building is home to the UALR Alumni Association, the Office of Community Engagement and the University District Partnership.
Adjacent to the Chancellor’s Residence on 28th Street, it’s design is a wonderful stone and brick exterior complete with many pleasant ammenities inside. The welcoming entry way, or Butler Hertage Hall boasts of campus memorabilia including two vintage Junior Rose Bowl Football Game tickets dating back to December 10, 1949 when the Little Rock Junior College Trojans were victorious over Santa Ana College at Pasadena, California, and a donor recognition wall that prominently recognizes a group of individuals whose outstanding generocity ensures that the beautiful facility is a fixture on the UALR campus for future generations. Visitors can also browse the historical pictures of the UALR Distinguished Alumni and President’s Award recipients that are displayed inside the UALR Hall of Fame in the Mozelle Nelson Board Room.
Rebecca Ward, the alumni association board president is proud the Bailey Alumni & Friends Center is a point of connection for alumni, and many in the community. “As a student, I had a wonderful experience in the Social Work program…it is important for students to see that alumni are valued assets of the University and that your connection with UALR goes on past your years as a student,” she continued, “As alumni, It gives us a place to meet, talk, reflect. Our alumni should be proud to know that we are important enough for the University to have this fine facility for us.”
The large outdoor patio and the K. August Engle Alumni Hall are suited for larger gatherings that host upwards of one-hundred guests. In addition to many smaller meetings, the building is proud to host two large annual events, the “Taste of” event each spring raises money for the UALR Alumni Association scholarship endowment, and the campus picnic “Burgers at Bailey” each fall for alumni, and the campus community of students, faculty and staff.
Linda Martin, Bailey Alumni and Friends Center Coordinator, supports the Center personally. “The Bailey Alumni Center is a catalyst for alumni coming back to campus and for others who are looking at UALR,” she continues, “The community is welcome to it, it is the place to connect – and provides great exposure for UALR.”
