Following the success of the Alumni Walk once adjacent to the Donaghey Student Center, the UALR Alumni Association announces plans to relocate the alumni bricks dislocated by the construction of the new Student Services Center back close to their original home by June 2014.
In addition, the names of dedicated alumni will be inscribed on new brick pavers available for purchase. These pavers will be placed alongside the alumni bricks at the new UALR Alumni Plaza, introducing generations of new students to the distinguished alumni family that awaits them upon graduation.
At the heart of the campus, the plaza will be nestled between Student Union B and the Ottenheimer Library. The UALR Alumni Plaza will become home to the Alumni Walk, and both will be traversed by thousands of students each day, making the area one of the most visible and visited features at campus.
By reserving a paver for $100, alumni will support the UALR Alumni Association and The Annual Fund, which provide assistance to students with scholarships.
Alumni Association members are invited to add their name to the Alumni Plaza and show generations to come what UALR means to them. Once installed, participants can view their bricks or stones by reserving a tour with Alumni Association staff or through an online brick locator currently under development.
The original brick pavers dating from 1927-1999 were carefully removed from the Alumni Walk upon construction of the Student Services Building and preserved by the Associate Vice Chancellor of Facilities Management and UALR alumnus Dave Millay, ’03.
“Our staff removed each paver and neatly arranged them in a safe environment for their eventual return to campus in an equally visible location,” said Millay.
He continued, “Chancellor Anderson has made funding available, and we have begun the process of removing mortar from the edges of some of these markers before returning them to campus to their new permanent home.”
