Great Grads: Jackie Moore

news-mooreEffective communication makes the world go ‘round, according to UALR Alumni Association Board Member Jackie Moore. Everything that she has seen throughout her education and professional career only serves to back up that assertion.

“When I earned my bachelor’s degree in journalism and my master’s in interpersonal and organizational communication, I learned how we speak and see ourselves,” Moore said. “I found that these areas have an incredible impact on how we interrelate with groups.”

Moore has used her experience in the communications field for over 30 years in her work with the Office of Personnel Management in the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration. Her area of the business is responsible for training and coordinating the final reviews for employee grievances.

Trained as a mediator, Moore said many employees don’t choose this method of conflict resolution. She does, however, continue advocating for this area when she serves as an alumni speaker for UALR classes and seminars.

“I am excited to be a part of something as exciting as the Alumni Association,” Moore said. “By working to make the organization much more visible on campus, we can continue to be a significant positive change agent for alumni and current students.”

One way Moore works to make a positive impact for current students is through her work with the alumni scholarship committee. She works to ensure the selection process is followed, bringing well-qualified new students to UALR, but she also helps to raise funds for those scholarships.

Moore was among the first Alumni Association members to gain lifetime status. She works with these and other dedicated UALR graduates to recruit new members for the organization. The benefits to membership are endless, she added.

“By giving the University just a little bit of support annually, you get a lot of support from the association,” Moore said. “We offer former students and graduates a great return on their membership investment.”

In her off-hours, Moore is an avid reader of nonfiction, mostly biographies, and has been a member of the St. John Missionary Baptist Church for the past 30 years. The Army brat who settled in Arkansas when she was in high school has been married to her husband Albert for over 30 years.

The couple has three daughters. Lisa is a teacher and resides in Atlanta with her husband Tim and Moore’s only grandson Zion. Angela is a student at the UALR Bowen Law School, and Alexis is a freshman at Tennessee State University.
