Arkansas Public Administration Consortium

Internships

MPA Internships

Another program that APAC administers is the internship component of the Master of Public Administration programs for the three universities in the consortium.

Part of the agreement with the three universities involves the placement of interns.  APAC can be asked to develop and provide intern opportunities for MPA program interns from any of the three consortium universities.  APAC works with the universities to place interns in government and non-profit agencies to receive hands-on experience in public and nonprofit administration.  Over the years, APAC has worked with approximately 145 interns for placements.

The internship program is a win-win program for the interns and their sponsoring agencies.  The agency has the opportunity to acquire a knowledgeable temporary “employee” to assist in working on and/or directing a specific project or within a certain area of need.  The agency pays a small stipend to APAC, which in turn provides the entire amount to the intern.  The organization has virtually no paperwork and the intern is gaining valuable on-the-job training and experience in a governmental or nonprofit area that is of interest to the student.  This is a part of the student’s curriculum.

Recent placements and agreements include DHS, Pulaski County, and the City of Benton.
