The Communication Skill Center (CSC) helps take the panic out of public speaking! The CSC is a free student resource devoted to helping with all stages of the speech creation process. Our services include, but are not limited to:
- managing anxiety
- brainstorming topics
- conducting research
- organizing content
- adapting messages to audiences
- designing and integrating effective presentational aids such as PowerPoint and Prezi
- one-on-one video coaching
Stop by one of the CSC locations and leave a more comfortable, confident speaker!
Online Services. We offer synchronous (video chats via Skype and Google Hangout–Book an Appointment) and asynchronous (Email–firstname.lastname@example.org) for both online and onsite students. We can help with the following:
Presentation organization (outlining)
Visual aid feedback (PowerPoint/Prezi)
YouTube/Synchronous video rehearsal feedback
Technology. In the CSC we have PCs and Macs.
Software. We have a computer with Jaws and Magic for students who are blind or with low vision.
Printing. We also offer printing services—the first four pages are free; each additional page is 10 cents.
Conferences/Walk-in Appointments. Students are encouraged, but not required, to schedule conferences with staff in the CSC. Walk-ins are welcome. When checking-in clients will need their T#s. Book an Appointment
Can’t bring your class or office to the CSC? We’ll bring the CSC to you! Workshops are FREE for courses in the College of Business and the College of Social Sciences and Communication as well as individual university programs that require SPCH 1300. Other programs or organizations may purchase workshops for a small fee.
Workshops can focus on any stage of the presentation creation process (brainstorming, researching, organizing, creating and using effective presentational aids, rehearsing, etc.) as well as other communication topics (active listening, assertiveness, team building, professionalism, etc.).
