Attendance: The Arkansas Department of Education requires participants to attend the entire Institute training to receive a certificate for 30 hours of professional development in their content area. There are no excused absences. The College Board approved Certificate of Attendance will be provided by APSI at the end of the last session on Friday. Daily sessions are from 8:00 a.m. until 4:45 p.m., Tuesday through Friday.
Social Security Number: The last six digits of registrant’s Social Security number are required by the Arkansas Department of Education as confirmation of attendance and training.
Online registration begins Dec. 1, 2012. After May 19, a late registration fee of $50 will be applied.
Materials Provided: All registrations include a Vertical Teams Guide for Pre-AP teachers, College Board packets for AP teachers, consultant-requested materials, lunch and break refreshments.
Registration Fee:
$500 – without housing. Morning and evening meals are the responsibility of the participant.
$650 – with dorm housing. Breakfast is included. Participants will need to bring linens for a double bed, towels and all personal items. Linens and towels may be rented by the participant for $15. Linen can be requested while registering online. Rental fee must be paid when the participant checks in for the Institute.
Registration Changes: All changes to the online registration must be sent by email to pmedison@ualr.edu. If a registrant is unable to attend the Institute, the school district may substitute a replacement in the same subject area (such as New Pre-AP Middle School English) at any time. If the substitute is in a different subject area (such as Exp Pre-AP Middle School English), the school district must contact the APSI office at 501.569.3419 for space availability.
Registration Cancellation: All cancellations must be sent by email to pmedison@ualr.edu or faxed to 501.569.3438. Participants are responsible for notifying the Center and their school districts of cancellations. Cancellations received after May 25, for the June 2013 institutes will be charged a $150 late cancellation fee. Cancellations are not accepted after June 2, 2013.
Arkansas Department of Education Grant: The Arkansas Advanced Placement Professional Development Center has a grant from the Arkansas Department of Education to pay the registration fee and on-campus housing for Arkansas Pre-AP and AP public school teachers who register before funds are exhausted.
Priority Status established for Arkansas public school educators by the ADE is as follows:
1. Arkansas AP Teachers from Focus or Priority Schools (as established by the Arkansas ESEA Flexibility Plan) never having attended an APSI or they attended more than 5 years ago.
2. Arkansas AP teachers never having attended an APSI or they attended more than 5 years ago.
3. Arkansas Pre-AP teachers from Focus or Priority Schools (as established by the Arkansas ESEA Flexibility Plan) never having attended an APSI or they attended more than 5 years ago.
4. Arkansas Pre-AP teachers never having attended an APSI or they attended more than 5 years ago.
5. Arkansas AP or Pre-AP teachers having attended an APSI within the last 5 years.
Grant money available after the April 1, 2013, deadline, will be accessible to all Arkansas public school teachers based on the date the registration is received. Once grant funds are exhausted, districts are responsible for the registration fee.
