Thank you for choosing to be a part of the 24th annual UA Little Rock Advanced Placement Summer Institute (APSI). We are excited for you to join us for an informative and challenging week. In order to make the institute as enjoyable as possible, please carefully review the following information.

Dates: June 12-15, 2018
Courses offered: Pre-AP in English, Math, Middle School Science, Social Studies, AP Art History and AP U.S. History.
Dates: June 26-29, 2018
Courses offered: AP in Studio Art, Computer Science Principles, English, Spanish Language, U.S. Government and Politics, European History, World History, and Pre-AP Physical Science.
Apartment housing check-in is from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Monday for both weeks. Registration check-in begins at 7:15 a.m. on Tuesday for both weeks in the Center for Performing Arts.
Attendance: The Arkansas Department of Education requires a participant to attend the entire Institute training to receive a certificate for 30 hours of professional development in their content area. Attendance is taken twice a day, and individuals will receive a reduced number of hours on their certificates for every hour missed. It is the participants’s responsibility to sign the attendance sheet each morning and afternoon. The College Board approved Certificate of Attendance will be provided by APSI at the end of the last session on Friday. Daily sessions are from 8:00 a.m. until 4:45 p.m., Tuesday through Friday.
Teacher License Case ID Number: Your Case ID is required by the Arkansas Department of Education as confirmation of attendance and training. You may find your ID at ADE’s link: https://adeaels.arkansas.gov/AelsWeb/Search.aspx
Commuter participants: On campus parking will be located in the parking deck. The bar will be raised for free exit at 4:30 p.m. each afternoon. If you need to leave before 4:30 p.m., the cost to exit is $1.00.
Materials Provided: College Board packets for AP teachers and consultant-requested materials will be provided.
Lunch: Lunch will be served daily in the DSC Cafeteria. Your consultant will inform you of your designated lunch time during each day. Our schedule allows for a 45-minute lunch. Vegetarian and gluten free options are available.
What to bring: Refer to your course description online at ualr.edu/apsi/course description for specific items if requested by your consultant. Please dress casually and wear shoes appropriate for walking. You will be most comfortable if you plan to dress for hot weather outdoors, but bring a sweater or jacket as air conditioned classrooms may be quite cool. You may also wish to bring an umbrella and a chair cushion if you find classroom seating uncomfortable.
$500 – without housing. Morning and evening meals are the responsibility of the participant.
$650 – with housing. Breakfast is included. Participants will need to bring linens for a double bed, towels and all personal items. Apartment housing is available for APSI participants only.
$15 – Linens including sheets, pillow, blanket, towels, and wash cloths may be rented by the participant by sending a check by May 1, 2018, to UALR/APSI, 2801 South University Ave., SUA 101, Little Rock, AR 72204. Schools and Districts will not be invoiced for linens.
Arkansas public school teachers should inform their schools that they will be responsible for payment if there are not sufficient state funds to cover their costs for the Institute. All private and out-of-state schools are responsible for their teachers’ registration fees.
Late Registration fee begins May 1, 2017 – $50
Late Cancellation fee begins May 1, 2017 – $200
Cancellations beginning June 1, 2017 – $500 (Participants are encouraged to find a replacement in their subject area if not able to attend.)
No-shows will incur a $500.00 fee paid by the district or the participant.
Registration Changes: All changes (institute subject, priority school, or email addresses) to the online registration must be sent by email to Becky Rogers at firstname.lastname@example.org. If a registrant is unable to attend the Institute, the school district may substitute a replacement in the same subject area (such as New Pre-AP Middle School English) at any time. If the substitute is in a different subject area (such as Experienced Pre-AP Middle School English), the school district must contact the APSI office at 501.569.3432 for space availability.
Registration Cancellation: To cancel your registration you must complete the online cancellation form. A confirmation will be sent to your email address as well as to your principal and AP coordinator. If a teacher is registered and is a no show for APSI, the full registration fee will be charged. Late cancellation or no show fees will be charged regardless of whether or not the teacher was offered state funding to attend APSI.
Arkansas Department of Education Grant: The Arkansas Advanced Placement Professional Development Center has a grant from the Arkansas Department of Education to pay the registration fee and on-campus housing for Arkansas Pre-AP and AP public school teachers who register before funds are exhausted.
Priority Status established for Arkansas public school educators by the ADE is as follows:
1. Arkansas AP Teachers from Focus or Priority Schools (as established by the Arkansas ESEA Flexibility Plan) never having attended an APSI or they attended more than 5 years ago.
2. Arkansas AP teachers never having attended an APSI or they attended more than 5 years ago.
3. Arkansas Pre-AP teachers from Focus or Priority Schools (as established by the Arkansas ESEA Flexibility Plan) never having attended an APSI or they attended more than 5 years ago.
4. Arkansas Pre-AP teachers never having attended an APSI or they attended more than 5 years ago.
5. Arkansas AP or Pre-AP teachers having attended an APSI within the last 5 years.
6. Arkansas consultants, instructional facilitators, or those not delivering AP or Pre-AP course content to students.
Grant money available after the February 1, 2018, (for June participants) March 1, 2018, (for July participants) deadline will be accessible to all Arkansas public school teachers based on the date the registration is received. Once grant funds are exhausted, districts are responsible for the registration fee.
