Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts

Dates: July 7-10, 2015

Check-in is from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Monday and begins at 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday.

Attendance: The Arkansas Department of Education requires participants to attend the entire Institute training to receive a certificate for 30 hours of professional development in their subject area.  There are no excused absences. The College Board approved Certificate of Attendance will be provided by APSI at the end of the last session on Friday. Daily sessions are from 8:00 a.m. until 4:45 p.m., Tuesday through Friday.

Social Security Number: The last six digits of the registrant’s Social Security number are required by the Arkansas Department of Education as confirmation of attendance and training.

Online registration begins Nov. 1, 2014.   

Materials Provided: All registrations include Vertical Teams Guides for Pre-AP teachers, College Board packets for AP teachers, consultant-requested materials, lunch, and snacks.

Registration Fee:

$525 – without housing. Morning and evening meals are the responsibility of the participant.

$650  – with dorm housing. Breakfast is included.  Participants will need to bring linens for a twin bed, towels and all personal items.  All rooms are doubles with a shared bathroom. Remember, this is a new,  empty dorm room.

$50 -Additional cost paid by participant for  a single room with a shared bath (limited availability). If requesting a single room, please send a check for $50 to UALR/APSI, 2801 South University Ave., SUA 101, Little Rock, AR 72204 by May 1, 2015.

$15- Linens, including sheets, pillow, blanket, towels, and wash cloths may be rented by sending a check to  by May 1,2015, to UALR/APSI, 2801 South University Ave., SUA 101, Little Rock, AR 72204. 

Other Fees:

Late registration fee begins June 1, 2015 – $50

Late cancellation fee begins June 1, 2015 – $200

Cancellations in writing  either by email or fax beginning June 15, 2015 – $500 (Participants are encouraged to find a replacement if not able to attend.)

No shows will incur a $500.00 fee paid by the district or the participant.

Registration Changes: All changes to the online registration must be sent by email to dacook@ualr.edu. If a registrant is unable to attend the Institute, the school district may substitute a replacement in the same content area (such as New Pre-AP Biology) at any time. If the substitute is in a different content area (such as AP Chemistry), the school district must contact the APSI office at  501.569.3432  for space availability.

Registration Cancellation: All cancellations must be in writing and sent by email to dacook@ualr.edu, rarogers@ualr.edu or faxed to  501.569.3438 . Participants are responsible for notifying the Center and their school districts of cancellations.  Late cancellation fees will apply.

Arkansas Department of Education Grant: The Arkansas Advanced Placement Professional Development Center has received a grant from the Arkansas Department of Education to pay the registration fee and on-campus housing for Arkansas Pre-AP and AP public school teachers who register before funds are exhausted.

Priority Status established for Arkansas public school educators by the ADE is as follows:

1. Arkansas AP Teachers from Focus or Priority Schools (as established by the Arkansas ESEA Flexibility Plan) never having attended an APSI or they attended more than 5 years ago.

2. Arkansas AP teachers never having attended an APSI or they attended more than 5 years ago.

3. Arkansas Pre-AP teachers from Focus or Priority Schools (as established by the Arkansas ESEA Flexibility Plan) never having attended an APSI or they attended more than 5 years ago.

4. Arkansas Pre-AP teachers never having attended an APSI or they attended more than 5 years ago.

5. Arkansas AP or Pre-AP teachers having attended an APSI within the last 5 years.

Grant money available after March 1, 2015, will be allocated based on the date the registration is received. Once grant funds are exhausted, districts are responsible for the registration fee.
