About
Archivists act as agents of the present and past for the future - through appraisal, preservation, and access, they ensure the availability of records needed for scholarly research, for institutional memory, and the transmission of cultural information. The archival endeavor has served a long and enduring tradition - a forerunner of today’s knowledge and information management - of connecting people and information. Archivists work to identify records of enduring value, provide control over them, and foster access to a variety of media, which must also be protected and preserved, for future users.
Since 1978, the mission of the UALR Archives & Special Collections Department has been to collect and make available resources on Arkansas history and the region. These materials include letters, legal documents, photographs, maps, architectural drawings, pamphlets, books, journals, newspapers, and other materials. In total, the collections comprose about 10,000 linear feet, 70,000+ images, and approximately 8,000 books.
