Archives and Special Collections

Books

The Archives book collections contain materials that are historically significant to Arkansas and the surrounding areas, including the trans-Mississippi Valley.

Collections:

Arkansas - Books pertaining to Arkansas and Arkansas history.

Heiskell - The personal book collection of J.N. Heiskell (1872-1972), owner and publisher of the Arkansas Gazette. This collection focuses on 19th Century Arkansas and the Trans-Mississippi West.

Simon - The personal book collection of Charlie May Simon, noted children’s author. The genres included in the Simon collection include fiction, biography, philosophy and history. Many volumes belonged to Simon’s husband, Pulitzer Prize winning Poet John Gould Fletcher.

Rose - The personal book collection of Uriah M. Rose, and the founding collection of the Little Rock Public Library circa 1914. The genres included in the Rose collection include 19th Century literature and books in several foreign languages. On long-term loan from the Central Arkansas Library System.

Non-Circulating - Rare or fragile items belonging to Ottenheimer Library, including reference volumes dealing with Arkansas and Civil War history.

Conditions of Use: The collections are available to all faculty, students, staff and the general public - however, the materials do not circulate. Although some items may be photocopied others are too fragile and the UALR Archives & Special Collections staff reserves the right to refuse to photocopy certain items.
