ARST 3370 Photography 1

This is the basic course. Students can use either traditional film or digital cameras (single-lens reflex is required in either case) to make digital black and white prints. The course covers: basic camera functions, Photoshop fundamentals and image-making concepts. The class is appropriate for both the true beginner and those with considerable experience. Photography 1 is prerequisite for all other photography classes at UALR. (3 credit hours)
ARST 3371-01 • Photography 2

This course is an overview of various forms of photographic expression, including documentary, metaphoric, and experimental approaches. Students continue to develop technical skill using black and white concepts with digital printing. Traditional darkroom techniques will also be introduced. Along with Photography 1, this course is required for all other courses in the photography curriculum. (3 credit hours)

ARST 4315-02 APD / Large Format Photography

The view camera, with a dramatically larger film size and controls unavailable on other cameras, enables the photographer to achieve a heightened sense of image quality. We will learn the basics of the large format technique and explore subjects that lend themselves especially to this approach — including landscape, architecture and product photography. Cameras and accessories are provided.

ARST 4315-06 APD / Darkroom Techniques

Basic techniques for traditional darkroom photography. Students must have film cameras. (3 credit hours)

ARST 4372-01 Digital Color Photography
TR 1:40 - 4:20 • Carey Roberson
An introduction to digital color photography. Emphasis on color theory and the expressive use of color. Students may use either traditional or digital SLR cameras. Digital printing facilities are provided. Students will expand upon their knowledge of photography with the addition of color mediums. The students will also continue to expand upon their own photographic expression. (3 credit hours)

ARST 4373-01 • Advanced Projects in Photography
TR 1:40 - 4:20 • Carey Roberson
The further exploration of concepts introduced in other photography courses. Individual assignments based on each student’s previous experience and interest. We will study a variety of historical examples to guide and inspire individual exploration. (3 credit hours)
Prerequisite: ARST 3370 and ARST 3371.
