Judith Anne Wrappe Endowed Scholarship
for the benefit of the Department of Art in the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock

Funding:
For the purposes of establishing this endowment, the Donors have contributed the sum of $139,000 to the University of Arkansas Foundation, Inc. The Donors at their sole discretion may continue to contribute funds to this endowment during their lifetime. Additional funds may be contributed to this endowment by the bequest upon the death of any of the Donors. Memorial and tribute gifts may also be made to this endowment.

Purpose:
The purpose of the Judith Anne Wrappe Endowed Scholarship shall be to honor the memory of Judith Anne Wrappe, a promising young artist and former UALR student whose life and all of its creativity was cut short by tragedy. The funds shall be used for tuition and fees for students pursuing a degree in the Department of Art at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Specific criteria are listed in Paragraph 4.

Administration and Criteria:

The selection of the recipients of the Judith Anne Wrappe Endowed Scholarship shall be the responsibility of the Chair of the Department of Art in the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in collaboration with designated faculty members within that department, in accordance with the following criteria:

  • The recipient shall be a full- or part-time first-time degree-seeking student who is a declared major in the Department of Art.
  • The recipient must have completed 90 hours of higher education and be declared senior level student within their major.
  • Funding shall be for tuition and fees only with the exception that an appropriate one-time cash award shall be made to the recipient at the first awarding of the scholarship and shall be presented at an awards ceremony.
  • Funding shall be provided for no more than 34 (thirty-four) academic hours.
  • Part-time students shall not receive this scholarship for more than three years or 34 hours, whichever comes first.
  • Recipients are to exemplify the talent and character that was reflected in the life and dedication of Ms. Wrappe, including talent, artistic challenge, enthusiasm, tenacity, a sense of humor, and concern for others. Financial need shall not be a consideration.
  • If any funds remain in the spend able account, the Chair of the Department of Art shall make recommendations to the Donors as to expenditure for the appropriate student-focused activities. In any case, the final decision shall remain with the donors until they choose not to be involved.
  • Recipients shall write a letter of appreciation to the Donors, which shall serve as their official notice of acceptance.
  • Students must be in “Good” academic standing with the university.

The scholarship will be awarded at the end of each spring term for use in the next academic year. If there is not a qualified recipient in any given year, the funding maybe held over to be awarded the next year.

Materials Required for Application:

  • A completed Judith Anne Wrappe Endowed Scholarship application form.
  • An Unofficial college transcript (s). Students awarded the prize must submit an official transcript prior to acceptance.
  • Examples of work pertaining to degree sought.
    See below for specific requirements for Art History, studio art, art education, or applied design.

  • A one to two paged typed personal statement, explaining your role as an artist, character qualifications, and goals for your senior year(s).

For an art history applicant

  • Two written art history papers in hard copy and on a CD for distribution.

For an applicant in studio art, art education, or applied design:

  • A CD PowerPoint presentation of 8-10 works. Any three-dimensional works included in your presentation must show more than one view.
  • Typed image list. The image list must be in order of presented materials and must include the following information: artist name, title of work, medium used, size, and date of completion.

Selection & Awarding Process:

  • The UALR Department of Art Scholarship and Awards Committee along with the chair, will identify candidates based on the Recipient Qualifications and Application Materials stated above.
  • The Department of Art faculty will make the final selections. If no qualified candidates are identified, funds will be retained for use in the next academic year.
  • Upon the faculty’s decision, an award letter, scholarship requirements, contract, and a return envelope will be mailed to potential recipient.
  • The student must return a letter of acceptance and signed contract, which states they have read and understand the conditions of maintaining the scholarship award.

Judith Anne Wrappe Endowed Scholarship recipients will need to consult financial services on how the award will affect their financial aid, before accepting the award.

Scholarship Exhibition Requirements
Scholarship recipients are required to participate in the fall scholarship exhibition to be held in one of the Department of Art galleries. Please be prepared to submit one or two recent exemplary artworks and coordinate with gallery director Brad Cushman.
