Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts: Online

How To Be Advised

How to be Advised and When to Register

UALR requires students to be advised before every registration period. After your first semester, you will notice an advising flag appear on your account. To have this flag released, you will need to be advised. Below you will find steps to that process.

1. You will need to be an officially declared Liberal Arts Online (BALA) student. If you are not officially declared, you can follow the steps on Changing Your Major on the BALA homepage.

2. Review the class schedules located on the BALA homepage.

3. Send advisor (Dana Steele) a list of what classes you would like to take. You can send this by email at djsteele@ualr.edu. An email of dates for Advising will be sent out each semester. The dates will also be posted at the top of the BALA class schedules.

4. Your advising email will be answered in order of received. Once answered, the advisor will review your choices and then clear your advising flag. You will be cleared for registration at that time (as long as no other holds are on your account).

5. Review dates of registration. Official registration periods will start by priority. Priority means by classification based on completed hours. Remember hours are figured going into the current term (do not count the hours you are currently in):

a) Freshman is a student with 0-29 hours

b) Sophomore is a student with 30-59 hours

c) Junior is a student with 60-89 hours

d) Senior is a student with 90 or more hours

6. Register for BALA classes before BALA seat roll back (roll back is when unused seats in the BALA program will be given back into the on campus sections of the online classes). Roll back is usually 2 weeks before the first day of classes for each term. The last day to register per term will be listed on the top of the BALA class schedule for that term.

7. Make all payments by the due dates….Example: If you register during early registration, you will need to pay a $100 deposit that goes towards your tuition or you will need at least $100 “confirmed” financial aid by 5 p.m. on the specific dates for each term to hold your classes. The registration guide will contain the exact dates. A link to the guide will be provided on the BALA homepage.
