As Director of the UALR Benton Center it is my pleasure to welcome you to our website and tell you about the Center.
UALR Benton Center is an extension of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. UALR has a long history of providing quality higher education in Saline County. Beginning in 1975 to 1994, UALR offered selected evening classes at the Benton High School.
At the request and help from the Saline County Education Association and the Saline/Benton community, UALR opened the Benton Center in 1995 offering a full State Minimum Core curriculum that would lead to any four-year degree, as well as, offering Saline County’s first degree…Associates of Art in General Studies…which, also, goes toward any four-year degree. At the time, only 15 classes were offered and most of those were evening classes…and provided those classes to 83 students for the year from the Saline County area. The staff consisted of one full-time Program Manager and one part-time office staff.
Today, the UALR Benton Center has grown to 54 day classes and 18 evening classes per year, and over 500 students per year from all over the Central Arkansas area. Today’s staff consists of seventeen employees that include six full-time staff and four full-time instructors.
In the Fall of 2012, UALR Benton Center began offering its first 4-year degree…Electronic Commerce (E-Commerce) and plans are in process to begin our second 4-year degree in the Fall of 2014.
The future is very bright at the UALR Benton Center. Not only are there plans for continued 4-year degree expansion, but there are also plans for the possibility of Community Enrichment Courses and the possibility of Summer Youth Programs. To top all of this off…plans are underway for a new UALR Benton Center building that will include state-of-the-art classrooms and labs, and many other amenities.
Come join your friends, family members, and neighbors at UALR Benton Center, and fulfill your educational goals.
