COURSE DESCRIPTION
The primary
purpose of this course is to help students build a good foundation of current
knowledge and practice in beginning weight training. It does not attempt to include everything to
be known about weight training. Emphasis
will be place on teaching the proper exercise technique, safety, spotting, and
program design to effectively and safely enhance the individual’s strength and
fitness level. Most of all, this is a
class to help you get started weight training for LIFE.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
1.
The student
will be able to correctly demonstrate proper lifting technique.
2.
The student
will be able to perform appropriate stretching exercises for specific weight
lifting exercises.
3.
The student
will be a ble to demonstrate correct spotting techniques for all exercises .
4.
The student
will demonstrate weight room safety rules and etiquette.
5.
The student
will be able to identify the major muscles used in each exercise.
6.
The student
will be able to design and implement a personalized weight training program.
GRADING : 300 POINTS POSSIBLE
1. Attendance: 100 points
·
Students will
be allowed two absences. Ten points will
be taken from the 100 points given for attendance for each absence after the
second absence. Absences may be made up.
· SUMMER SESSIONS: NO ALLOWED ABSENCES
·
Recommended
(not required): Perform one more training
session each week outside of class.

CLASS POLICIES: Follow weight room rules and procedures at all times!
1.
Dress: Loose, modest, non-binding clothes. No blue jeans. 5 points off for
inappropriate dress.
2.
Shoes: No sandals!
Shirts must be worn at all times
3.
Five minutes
before and after allowed for dressing.
4.
No food,
beverages, or chewing gum
5.
Locker &
Towel: Inquire at DSC equipment services
