Blackboard Basics: Online Learning at UALR

Blackboard Basics – UALR Online

Online courses are accessed through Blackboard, UALR’s learning management system. When you log into Blackboard, you’ll see links to your current courses, as well as announcements and other helpful resources. Each course has its own homepage, where you’ll be able to manage assignments, watch video lectures, communicate with your instructor, participate in discussions with your classmates and use other digital tools for an engaging learning experience.

As a student at UALR, you will likely have to use Blackboard each semester to access your online courses or the online component of your face-to-face courses.

Every semester during the first week of classes, the staff of Scholarly Technology and Resources (STaR) holds orientation sessions to help students learn the basics, such as how to log in, upload assignments, use the discussion forum, and take exams. We highly encourage all new students to attend a Blackboard orientation session their first semester if possible; however, if you’re unable to physically attend an orientation session on campus or need a quick refresher, we have online resources available to help you become comfortable with the Blackboard interface and tools.

In addition to this website, all students have access to a course in Blackboard called “Blackboard Student Orientation” (located under the “myBlackboard” tab) that covers basic topics. Blackboard also provides video tutorials, which you’ll find linked below.

If you need help throughout the semester, our Blackboard Student Support team is also just a call or click away.
