Users must have a Google® account that is registered on YouTube. A YouTube channel is required to process and save your webcam videos.

1. You can create video from the content editor. Click Recorder and select Record from Webcam. Your school and instructor can disable this tool.

2. Uploading, processing and storage happens in YouTube. You need a Google account to use this.

3. Before recording, your permission is required to provide access to your camera and microphone. You can also choose to keep your video unlisted. Only users who have the link to the video can access it. For example, in your course. The video does not appear in the YouTube search results.

4. Browse your video library. Edit the properties of the authored clip in YouTube. In the library, you can preview, insert and edit. Click Edit to edit the clip in YouTube. Refresh the video library after completing your edits.

5. Insert your recorded videos immediately after recording. Click Play in Place or Thumbnail. Previously uploaded videos in the video library can also be previewed and inserted.

The content editor allows you to add and format text, insert equations and hyperlinks, tables, and attach different types of files to content. The editor appears throughout the system as the default editor.

Video Everywhere is a feature of the Content Editor. Once installed and activated, you will see a new icon in the Content Editor that accesses your webcam.  The feature provides the ability for instructors and students to:

• Record a video on the fly using a webcam and have it seamlessly embedded in course materials, interactions, and feedback through the content editor.
• Reuse previously recorded videos by choosing from one’s own “library” of videos.

Other updated features include:

• Image editing / resizing
• Mash-up/ consolidation of media selection
• WebEQ replaced  w/MathML equation editor
• Symbols/ emoticons
• Advanced table settings/ easy access
• HTML and new CSS editing (automatic html validation)
• Help
• Larger Full screen editing view

Your instructor and school control the content editor’s features and availability. If you have difficulty accessing the content editor, contact your school for assistance.

B. Use the action bar functions to perform various actions, including:

• Create Thread: Add a new thread to a forum.
• Search: Search for Discussion Board content. The search field is collapsed by default to save screen space.
• Thread Actions: Make a selection from the drop-down list. Edit the status of the selected threads and perform other actions, such as marking threads read or unread and setting or clearing flags. Flags mark threads for later attention.
• Collect: Gather selected threads onto one page where posts can be sorted, filtered, or printed.

C. Select one or more threads or select the check box in the header row to select all threads for an action, such as collecting.
D. Click a thread title to read the posts. Forum titles containing unread posts appear in bold type.
E. Click Edit Paging to determine the number of items to view per page. Type a number in the box and click Go. Click the X to close the pop-up box.

Depending on how your instructor set up your course, you access the discussion board from either the course menu or a course area, such as a content area, learning module, lesson plan, or folder.

The main Discussion Board page displays a list of available discussion forums. A forum is an area where users discuss a topic or a group of related topics. Click a forum title to view the messages. Forums containing unread posts appear in bold.

Within each forum, users can create multiple threads. A thread includes the initial post and any replies to it. When creating a forum, your instructor has the option of allowing or not allowing you to start threads. A moderated, graded forum used to evaluate student performance will be tightly controlled, and you cannot create threads. Other forums are designed for users to share opinions and thoughts on tangential or unrelated topics.

Course groups can have their own discussion boards that members create using the groups tool. Group discussion boards are available only to users who are members of the group. If a group discussion board is available, access it from the groups link in the course menu or in the My Groups area.

Viewing a Discussion Forum

When you access a discussion board forum, a list of threads appears with the following information:

• Date: Displays the date that the thread was created.
• Thread: Displays the name of the thread.
• Author: Displays the name of the user who created the thread.
• Status: Indicates whether the thread is published, locked, hidden, or a draft.
• Unread Posts: Displays the number of posts not yet accessed.
• Total Posts: Includes both read and unread posts.

With this new Global Navigation menu, you can access everything you need quickly and easily, from wherever you are in the Blackboard Learn platform.

This menu can be accessed at any time throughout the application by pressing Shift+Alt+M (PC) or Control+Alt+M (Mac) on your keyboard.

Posts: Aggregates posts and comments from collaborative tools Discussion Boards, Blogs, Journals, and Wikis) from all of your Courses and organizations–keeping you connected to all the conversations going on across Blackboard.

Updates: Aggregates Notifications from across all of Blackboard and provides the ability to filter to ensure easy management of updates.

My Grades: A tool specifically for students that provides access to all of your grades from across all of your courses –viewable by date (so you can always see the latest grades you’ve received across Blackboard) or by course (so you can see all the grades you’ve received for each course, as    well as any assignments or assessments that have been submitted or are upcoming for the course).

People: Enables you to discover others in your academic network –those who are in each of your Courses with you and organizations –as well as search for others school-wide and view user profiles
