How to flush your DNS cache

The DNS cache on your computer helps you quickly access sites on the internet, but if there’s an issue with the data stored there, you may see an error in your browser when attempting to connect to a website. If you’re unable to clear the error by restarting your computer or router, then you may need to manually reset the DNS cache on your computer.

The steps for doing this vary depending on your operating system:

Microsoft Windows

  1. Right click on the start menu and choose Command Prompt (Admin) from the menu.
  2. Type in the command: ipconfig /flushdns.
  3. Restart your computer.

Apple MacOS

  1. Open Finder and navigate to the Applications > Utilities directory and open the Terminal app.
  2. Type in the command: sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder.
  3. Enter your password when prompted and hit Enter.
  4. Restart your computer.

After flushing your DNS cache, please restart your computer and try accessing the site again. If you’re still having trouble accessing your UA Little Rock Blackboard account after flushing your DNS cache, please contact elearning-support@ualr.edu for more assistance.
