Pre-Collegiate Research Experience Program (PREP)
UALR Social Science Institute for High School Students
Summer 2011
- Can money buy happiness?
- Is punting on 4th down really the best strategy?
- Do opposites attract?
- Metrosexuals, cougars, dragons and unicorns: which of these are you more likely to see on the street?
In this first annual PREP summer institute we examined these questions and many more using rigorous, evidence-based research. In a supportive, interactive learning environment, students developed their research process skills by examining pressing social issues. Through these inquiries students developed an appreciation for ways that research can empower individuals and groups, and the critical thinking skills that are the foundation for responsible, informed, and engaged living. Additionally, students left the program having developed and strengthened their college readiness skills.
