Indian Percussion Ensemble to Perform April 22

UALR’s Indian Percussion Ensemble will give a performance of chenda drumming compositions from Kerala, South India at 7:30 p.m. April 22 in Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall of the Fine Arts Building.

Under the direction of Dr. Rolf Groesbeck, associate professor of music history, the ensemble will feature Mani Chidambaram and Johnathan Pennington. Chidambaram will perform excerpts from “Kathakali,” the Kerala dance drama. Pennington will perform the 45-minute long piece “Tayampaka,” a chenda solo that takes place at Hindu festivals.

Admission is free and open to the public.
