UALR’s Community Chorus, along with area high school choirs and the Second Presbyterian Church choirs, will present Mozart’s Requiem at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 7 at Robinson Center Music Hall in downtown Little Rock.
General admission is $10 and can be reserved through the box office at (501) 569-8993 or online at http://ualr.tix.com. UALR students, faculty, and staff are entitled to one free ticket, but must present a valid university ID when picking up the ticket in Room 151 in the Fine Arts Building. To reserve a ticket, call (501) 569-3294.
The high school choirs include Parkview High School, Bryant High School, Oak Grove High School, Hall High School, McClellan High School, and J.A. Fair High School.
Conducted by UALR music professor Bevan Keating, the choirs will present Requiem along with a professional orchestra. This community-based production unites more than 300 central Arkansas musicians on the capital city’s most respected stage.
“This will be the best work the UALR Community Chorus has ever done,” Keating said. “We are excited to be partnering with so many excellent community singers from around central Arkansas. Our audience will feel as if they are truly a part of Mozart’s masterpiece; we are staging a musical experience, not just a concert.”
As Mozart’s final work before his untimely death at the age 35, the Requiem has long captured public imagination in part because of the mysteries surrounding its composition. Yet the Requiem is a sophisticated piece of music in its own terms, projecting an otherworldly beauty even as it evokes a solemn vision of humanity’s inevitable day of judgment.
