UALR Friends of the Arts (FOA) will host a new fundraising event, 6×6, to benefit the university’s fine arts programs at 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 13, at the UALR Applied Design Studio in the University Plaza, Suite 300, at the corner of Asher and University Avenues.
6×6 will showcase artwork created by UALR faculty, students, staff and alumni who accepted a unique challenge: All works must fit into a 6-inch by 6-inch by 6-inch space. The artwork will be offered in a silent auction, with the proceeds to benefit the arts, music, and theatre arts and dance programs.
Vicki Kovaleski, president of FOA, is excited about the inaugural event. “There are no fundraisers quite like 6×6 in Little Rock. It will be an unforgettable experience for all of those involved,” said Kovaleski. “Artwork in the silent auction will include paintings, drawings, 3-D designs and even fabrics. They money raised from 6×6 will assist the fine arts departments in awarding student scholarships and other educational support, as well as supplying the departments with much-needed equipment.”
The 6×6 event will also display the talents of students in the performing arts with a live music performance and student actors in costumes from recent stage productions.
The volunteers in FOA have been supporting the arts at UALR for more than twenty years,” Kovaleski said. “A thriving arts scene attracts talented people in all areas of industry, which is a boon for our community. FOA is proud to be a part of this effort.”
Tickets to 6×6 are $35 of which $20 is tax deductible. For tickets, go to http://ualr.edu/development/give/. In the “Please designate my gift to” field please choose “Other.” Then in the “Other” field type “6×6.”
