Dr. Kristin Mann Gives Talk on Mayan People, Culture, and Calendar at Fletcher Library – Wednesday, March 14, 2012

UALR Associate Professor of history Kristin Mann will give a talk at the Fletcher Library branch of the Central Arkansas Library System on Mayan history and culture on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at 6:30 p.m.  The talk will cover cultural aspects of the Maya and their calendar system, and the origins of popular culture references to the importance of the December 2012 date in Mayan cosmology.

Mann, a faculty member at UALR since 2003, earned her Ph D. degree from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff. Mann is a specialist in the history of colonial Latin America and the United States-Mexico borderlands. She also serves as the coordinator for the secondary social studies education program at UALR and is a board member of the Arkansas Council for the Social Studies.
