The UALR Department of Music presents the UALR Wind Ensemble Spring Concert on Tuesday, May 7, at 7:30 p.m. in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall in the Fine Arts Building on the UALR Campus. This event is free and open to the public.

The Department of Music welcomes Darrell Smith as the Director of the Wind Ensemble. Smith has been an area band Director for over 30 years and has taught everything from fifth-grade beginners to college level students. Jazz Bands under Smith‚Äôs Direction have received state and national recognition. He received his Bachelor of Music Education degree from Henderson State University, is currently a member of the Ozark Point Brass Quintet, and has performed with the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, South Arkansas Symphony, Pine Bluff Symphony, and was the principal horn for the Little Rock Wind Symphony for 16 years.
Tuesday‚Äôs performance will begin with ‚ÄúStar Spangled Banner,‚ÄĚ done in traditional style, followed by ‚ÄúEternal Father, Strong to Save,‚ÄĚ written by Claude T. Smith. ‚ÄúGrace Praeludium,‚ÄĚ the next piece, was commissioned by the Arkansas Bandmasters Association in celebration of Ruth and Raymond Brandon for their legacy. ‚ÄúIncantation and Dance‚ÄĚ is one of the most popular and the first published work of John Barnes Chance. ‚ÄúThe Marriage of Figaro,‚ÄĚ by W.A. Mozart, will be the final selection for the evening. ‚Äė¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬† `
