The UALR College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences aims to expose students to new and different perspectives on various ideas, concepts, and problems. Students with this type of exposure tend to be more articulate in expressing their own ideas and are generally better equipped to take on difficult issues as they occur in life.
Recent polls of employers show that such “soft skills” as competent communication, ability to adapt, and teamwork are in higher demand when screening job applicants than “hard skills.” The reason? “Hard skills” are often field- or industry-specific and do not translate well across those boundaries. However, being a good communicator, flexible, and working well in teams are all skills that can be applied to most any position in any field.
The college houses 11 departments:
- Art
- English
- International and Second Language Studies
- History
- Music
- Philosophy and Liberal Studies
- Political Science
- Psychology
- Rhetoric and Writing
