Award-Winning Undergraduate Research Project, 2007-2008

Last year’s top Undergraduate Research Award-winning project, Purgatory, was submitted by Ryan Bona. Included below are his written design concept and a few photos from his work, a theatrical production.

“From the very beginning I knew this world had to be bound in symbolism. The ruined house is merely a symbol of Irish nationalism culminating in one place through the eyes of an old man. ‘Great people lived and died in this house; to kill a house where great men grew up, married, died, I here declare a capitol offence.’ Yeats wants his audience to realize the dangers of what he perceived as a degradation of the human stock and soul. A place where the young confront the old, a fragmented world marked by death and shrouded in mystery. -Ryan Bona”
