(Little Rock, Ark.) On Friday, February 16, 2018, the University of Arkansas at Little Rock’s Department of Art + Design will celebrate the opening of its new visual arts facility, the Windgate Center of Art + Design. Presented by Affirmative Risk Management, CRE8 will be a signature scholarship fundraiser honoring the Windgate Charitable Foundation for its generosity in making the building possible and its ongoing support of UA Little Rock’s Department of Art + Design.
Starting at 7 p.m., CRE8 will showcase the newly completed Windgate Center for Art + Design with student and faculty demonstrations in the Windgate Center. Libations and refreshments, sponsored by Trio’s and ROXOR Artisinal Gin will be spread throughout the building to encourage exploration. The new building consolidates into one 65,000-square-foot facility the art + design department’s diverse programs that were previously dispersed around campus.
Tickets are $100 for general admission. Tickets may be purchased at ualr.at/cre8. There will be a VIP reception for sponsors from 6-7 p.m. For sponsorship information contact Joseph Lampo, Director of Development for the Arts, at 501-569-8326 or email email@example.com.
All proceeds from sponsorships and ticket sales go toward the $3 million goal to endow art student scholarships. “UA Little Rock has raised more than $1,000,000.00 for endowed scholarship funds for art and design students since 2016.” Tom Clifton, interim dean of the College of Arts, Letters, and Sciences, recently announced.
Scholarship funds raised will substantially enhance the 10 existing scholarships dedicated to art and design students at the university. The increased scholarship opportunities are expected to go far in attracting the most talented and promising art students to the Department of Art + Design. The department currently has the broadest art + design course offerings in Arkansas—including the only programs in furniture design and metalsmithing.
Other event sponsors include Mark and Patricia Pollack, Thompson Electric, ARVEST, BK Moulding & Mainframe Artworks, Glass Erectors, Anne Mourning, LaRand Thomas, Hogan Taylor CPA’s + Advisors, WER Architects/Planners.
“The Windgate Center for Art + Design scholarship initiative is a worthwhile endeavor and all Little Rock citizens have an opportunity to be part of this legacy by supporting our university and helping students achieve the success they deserve and national notoriety as a great art center through donations,” says Mark L. Pollack, a 1988 graduate of UA Little Rock and now a Board Member Emeritus of Affirmative Risk Management, “Giving back to those who have helped Patricia and me reach our goals in life is one of the most rewarding things we’ve had the honor of doing. UA Little Rock has provided us the underpinning that enabled us to reach a point in our lives where we are able to give back to and help its students reach their goals through higher education.”
