I want to start off by saying thank you so much for allowing me the honor of becoming a recipient of the Charles and Nadine Baum Scholarship for the 2008-2009 academic year at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. In all honesty, I don't think I can express to you in words how much this scholarship truly means to me, but I want to try.

I currently work full-time and attend classes at night to obtain my MBA, and it can be quite challenging at times to say the least. The company where I currently work affords me a decent salary, but unfortunately, they do not have a reimbursement program for tuition like larger companies in the area. I have set aside funds earmarked strictly for tuition, but it is a large burden off my mind to know that my tuition will be paid for the upcoming fall and spring semesters. Due to your generosity, this scholarship allows me the luxury of focusing my undivided attention on all areas of my academic career, whether it is exams, group projects, or grueling group study sessions.

As I have stated before, this scholarship means the world to me, but I want to briefly explain why this award means so much more than just the fact that my tuition and books will be paid for. Growing up, I was blessed to have two of the greatest parents anyone could ever ask for. While we didn't have much money, my parents did everything in their power to make sure I always had everything I needed, and I felt loved. They both taught me that I would have to work hard to get ahead in life, and in my eyes, this scholarship proves that hard work truly does pay off. It means so much because it shows me that people like you really do take notice when someone works hard and sacrifices to become a success, to make their family proud.

Your gift has renewed my energy when it comes to any aspect of my academics. I have been fortunate to maintain a high GPA, but this award has sparked something new in me. I want to prove to you, as well as myself, that you made the right decision by choosing me for this prestigious award. I have the tenacity to accomplish anything, and I want to assure you, I will not let you down. Again, I can't thank you enough for this gift and what it means to me and my academic career. Also, on behalf of my family, they would like to express their gratitude as well. Thank you again for everything you have done.

Sincerely,

Thomas "Blake" Collins
