I am honored to be a recipient of the James H. Fribourgh Scholarship for the 2008-2009 academic year at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
I am always pleased to tell people of all the opportunities and scholarships that the University provides its students, made possible in part by donors like you who realize that a scholarship is an investment in Arkansas' future leaders.
I am currently a senior at UALR in the Construction Management program, and I eagerly expect to graduate in 2009. Even though my grade point average shows that I am an exceptional student, it was not always this way. I dropped out of school in the tenth grade and worked a few fast food jobs until I realized that lifestyle was unproductive. In 2003, I enrolled in GED classes and took the GED test in 2004. Not only did I pass the test, but I made a perfect score on the Language Arts portion. This affirmed to me that I was capable of excelling and improving my life. I completed my core coursework at Pulaski Technical College under the GED Scholarship, and I transferred to UALR with the Shelby Breedlove Scholarship.
Since I have been at UALR, I have met people who have been dedicated to my success. In the Construction Management department, my instructors are knowledgeable about the subject matter and take the time to explain each concept in detail. As a result of their tutelage, I garnered a competitive internship at Kiewit Southern, learning the job of an Estimator. I thoroughly enjoy my internship and I have spoken with Kiewit management about a full-time opportunity after graduation.
I sincerely thank you for supporting the students of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock with the James H. Fribourgh Scholarship. Your generosity truly makes a difference.
Sincerely,
Garrett Fonner
