My name is Jessica DeLoach, recipient of the Bernice and Curtis Harris private scholarship for the 2008-2009 school year. I am writing to you today to say thank you for your contribution to my education.

This fall will mark the beginning of my final year as an undergraduate student, and I have never felt more excited to return to school. Because of you, a substantial amount of my financial burden will be lifted during this school year, and I cannot stress enough how important this gift from you is to me.

In the spring of 2009, I will be graduating with a major in Theatre and a major in Liberal Studies with an emphasis in American Humanics (non-profit studies), Dance, and Gender Studies. I will also have an accompanying minor in Political Science. Should I decide to return for the fall semester of 2009, I will walk in December with an additional major in Philosophy and a minor in Legal Studies.

Needless to say, I have been working very hard to attain the degrees I've always wanted, and it is because of people like you that my dream is coming true.

My career goal is to become the producing artistic director of a nonprofit theatre that uses art to promote human and civil rights. In order to achieve this goal, I have earned the position that serves as the assistant to the producing artistic director at the Arkansas Repertory Theatre. I have also spent a large amount of my time working with organizations like Amnesty International so that I may become better educated to speak on matters concerning human and civil rights affecting people all across the world.

The reason I share these things with you is because I want you to know that I will continue to do my best to honor the legacy behind the Bernice and Curtis Harris Scholarship, and I hope that someday you will get to see my work on stage and know that you helped me get there.

Once again, thank you so much. I appreciate it more than you could ever know.

Sincerely,

Jessica Xan DeLoach
