Recipient of the Foundation Fund Board Scholarship
Major: Nursing
Class Year: Freshman
Hometown: Bigelow, AR
I am very excited to have been selected as a recipient of the UALR Foundation Fund Board Scholarship for the 2008-2009 academic year! Coming from a financially unstable background, this scholarship will greatly aid me. I have worked very hard to reach this point in my education, and I am thrilled to know that donors like you make school finances less stressful for deserving freshmen.
My future plans are to obtain my BSN and work at an Integrative Medicine facility. It wasn't until I decided to attend a school for nursing that I realized it had been a popular career within my family. I suppose it was an affirmation to learn that my late grandmother was a nurse-and also a very kind, loving woman. Finding this out made me want to be just like her!
The field of Integrative Medicine interests me because I believe conventional medications are being prescribed too readily. This is a situation I have witnessed loved ones endure and one I have dealt with myself. I wish to make a difference by letting people know that there are other means (diet, for example) of healing the body and mind before opting for a medication that could be potentially harmful.
UALR will help me reach these personal and educational goals. I am reassured of this by the fact that this institution is involved with the renowned UAMS, and also because UALR has such a diverse and down-to-earth population. Furthermore, I have read many bulletins on the UALR website that not only promote the newly available nursing technology but acknowledge nearly every department. This shows that UALR is serious about every aspect of education, and I am excited to become a part of this reputable community.
I wish to thank each donor for this wonderful opportunity. It means the world to me that there are people who care enough about education to aid hardworking people in their schooling. I hope that one day I too can make a difference in people's lives through my career.
Sincerely,
Rachel Armes
