In support of Programs

UALR Academic Programs

Like most institutions of higher education, UALR offers an impressive array of programs which range from traditional undergraduate degrees to highly specialized research centers, from co-curricular events designed to enhance students’ educational experiences to outreach, cultural, and athletic programs which serve both internal and external audiences.

At a time in the history of higher education when public universities across the country face escalating costs, stiff competition for excellent faculty and students, and declining state funding as a percentage of total expenditures, universities face increasing challenges in maintaining and enhancing their programmatic offerings.

UALR enjoys an impressive history as an institution which has carefully monitored its programs to ensure resonance with institutional mission, student demand, state need, and community service all within the context of efficient use of resources. A preeminent example of such a program is the new mechanical engineering program in the Donaghey College of Information Science and Systems Engineering (Cyber College) made possible through a $6 million gift from the Trinity Foundation.

The University is lean and yet offers a substantial complement of programs. However, while UALR is understandably proud of its curricular, research, co-curricular, athletic, and outreach programs, it aspires not just to maintain but to enhance them substantially, lending credence to the statement that “Being good enough for Arkansas is no longer good enough.”

UALR envisions a future distinguished by consistently upgraded, state-of-the-art technologies; nationally competitive athletic programs; public radio programming which increasingly balances national broadcasts with locally produced programming; first-rate libraries which boast collections and archives appropriate to the institution’s instructional and research agendas; cultural programming featuring world-class artists and performers; and discretionary funds for use by academic leaders to meet unexpected program opportunities and requirements.

In short, UALR envisions academic programs, athletic teams, cultural and outreach offerings, and research centers which provide exceptional educational experiences for both internal and external audiences and which will bring UALR recognition at the regional, state, and national levels.
