Alpha Sigma Lambda

Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society recognizes the special achievements of non-traditional students who accomplish academic excellence while facing competing interests of home and work. The society was established at Northwestern University in 1945-46, and presently has over 200 institutional chapters within the United States. Since receiving its charter in the spring of 1995, the Kappa Nu Chapter at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock has inducted 750 non-traditional students into Alpha Sigma Lambda. A student must meet the following criteria for election to membership:

  • Current undergraduate student
  • Minimum of 24 graded semester hours earned at UALR
  • 12 Liberal Arts/Sciences credit hours
  • Top 20% of class
  • 24 years old or older

Students, who meet the criteria, will receive a letter in March inviting them to apply for membership. A one time membership fee of $37.50 is required for the  induction ceremony, a certificate, pocket card, lapel pin and honor cords to be worn as part of your regalia at commencement. The induction ceremony will be held in late April. For more information contact the Non-Traditional Student Programs Coordinator at 501.569.3308 or email at

The Alpha Sigma Lambda Adult Education Foundation offers scholarships nationwide each spring.  Applicants do not have to be members of ASL to be considered for a scholarship.
