Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society recognizes the special achievements of non-traditional students who accomplish academic excellence while facing competing interests of home and work. The society was established at Northwestern University in 1945-46, and presently has over 200 institutional chapters within the United States. Since receiving its charter in the spring of 1995, the Kappa Nu Chapter at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock has inducted 750 non-traditional students into Alpha Sigma Lambda. A student must satisfy the following criteria for election to membership:
- Current undergraduate student
- Minimum of 24 graded semester hours earned at UALR
- 12 credits have to be earned in Liberal Arts/Sciences
- Top 20% of her/his represented classes (with a minimum GPA of 3.2)
- 24 years old or older
Students, who meet the criteria, will receive a letter in March inviting them to apply for membership. A one time membership fee of $37.50 is required for theÂ induction ceremony, a certificate, pocket card, lapel pin and honor cords to be worn as part of your regalia at commencement. The Alpha Sigma Lambda Adult Education Foundation offers scholarships nationwide each spring. The applications will be made available in the Office of Campus Life, Donaghey Student Center 216 in late January. The deadline is always April 30.Â Applicants do not have to be members of ASL to be considered for a scholarship.
