Awards and Scholarship Committee

Charge of the Committee, which has representation from each academic unit within the CEHP:

The College Awards and Scholarship Committee shall:

  1. identify and select recipients of any College-level awards and scholarships to students.
  2. select the College recipients of the Faculty Excellence Awards.
  3. give voice privileges to any program, including intercollegiate programs, with matter before the Committee.
  4. work with the Dean’s office to arrange an awards ceremony near the end of the spring semester.
  5. coordinate with academic units in the College in the recognition of additional outstanding students as selected by each academic unit.

Dean’s Award

Eligibility: all faculty and staff employed in CEHP.
Criteria: any faculty or staff who has gone “above and beyond” their normal job duties.
Who can nominate: anyone.
Nominations sent to: Amber Krum, Assistant to the Dean: adkrum@ualr.edu.
Nominations due: February 22, 2017, at 5 pm.
Maximum length of nomination letter: 1 page.
Award decided by: Dean’s office.
Recipient will receive: plaque presented by Dean Bain at the awards reception.

Trojan Excellence Award

Eligibility: STAFF employed in CEHP who have been in their current role within CEHP for at least 12 months prior to the nomination.
Criteria: any staff who has gone “above and beyond”.
Who can nominate: each unit or center can nominate one person.
Nominations sent to:

  • Schools and departments should send their nomination letter to their awards committee representative.
  • Centers should send their nomination letter to Catherine Crisp at clcrisp@ualr.edu.

Nominations due: February 22, 2017, at 5 pm.
Maximum length of nomination letter: 1 page; must include nominee’s name, unit or center, job title, length of time in current position, and why nominee is deserving of the award.
Award decided by: Awards Committee.
Recipient will receive: plaque presented by Dean Bain and awards committee chair at the awards reception along with a special parking space in Lot 5.

Faculty Above and Beyond Award (new award)

Eligibility: FACULTY employed in CEHP who have been in their current role within CEHP for at least 12 months prior to the nomination.
Criteria: any faculty who has gone “above and beyond” what is reasonably expected of them in their current role. Examples include but are not limited to faculty who have stepped in and covered administrative responsibilities, and/or classes for other faculty, gone to extraordinary levels to help students, made significant contributions to the community.
Who can nominate: each academic department or school can nominate one person.
Nominations sent to: school or department awards committee representative.
Nominations due: February 22, 2017, at 5 pm.
Maximum length of nomination letter: 1 page; must include nominee’s name, academic unit, job title, and length of time in current position, and why nominee is deserving of the award.
Award decided by: Awards Committee.
Recipient will receive: plaque presented by Dean Bain and awards committee chair at the awards reception.

Friends of the College

Eligibility: One individual or agency outside of UALR that each academic unit or center believes has made a significant contribution to their program. Note that this is a change from previous years when up to three individuals were recognized by each academic unit.
Who can recognize: each unit or center can recognize up to one individual or agency outside of UALR.
Recognition sent to:

  • Schools and departments should send their nomination letter to their awards committee representative.
  • Centers should send their nomination letter to Catherine Crisp at clcrisp@ualr.edu.
  • Information should include the individual’s/agency’s name and affiliation so we can put it in the program but does not need to include rationale for recognition.

Recognition due: February 22, 2017, at 5 pm.
Maximum length of recognition letter: 1 page comments which will be read by department/school chair at the awards reception.
Recipient will receive: plaque paid for by each department/school and presented by department/school chair at the awards reception.

Student Awards

Eligibility: each department/school may nominate one student for each degree type they award. For example, if the department/school gives an Associate’s, Bachelors, and Master’s degree, they may nominate one student in each of the three degree categories.
Criteria: GPA and Community Service:

  1. GPA:
    1. Associate’s and Bachelor’s: 3.0+ GPA
    2. Master’s, Doctoral, and Education Specialist: 3.5+ GPA
  2. Community/University Service: student must have some sort of service work/contribution that goes beyond what is required for the degree. Examples of university service include but are not limited to leadership in student organizations and the Greek community and service on university/college/departmental committees. Examples of community service include volunteer work with different organizations such as assisting at Harmony Health Clinic, being a reading tutor, serving meals to people experiencing economic challenges, and working one on one with children and adults in different capacities.

Nomination due: February 22, 2017, at 5 pm.
Maximum length of recognition letter: 1 page comments which will be read by awards committee chair at the awards reception.
Award decided by: Awards Committee
Recipient will receive: plaque paid for by CEHP and presented by Dean Bain and awards chair at the awards reception.
