Safety is one of the most important priorities for any college or university campus. The University of Arkansas at Little Rock is no different. In March 2013, I appointed the Campus Safety Review Committee to examine and make recommendations about safety on campus. Through an online survey, the committee gathered information about safety and perceptions of safety from students, faculty, staff, and residents of the University District.
I want to thank the members of the Campus Safety Review Committee for their careful work, and I appreciate everyone who participated in the online survey. It is my expectation that the university will act on each of the committee’s recommendations. The report addresses the need for changes directly related to crime and security as well as changes to the campus environment.
UALR is an anchor-institution in this community. It is important to all of us that UALR is a safe place and is perceived as a safe place to study, live, and work. Campus safety is a key part of our efforts to make UALR one of the top metropolitan, community-engaged, research universities in the region. We are building the university the state and community need—grounded in the capital city, global in reach.
