			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Students from the UALR College of Business won the 2013 Donald W. Reynolds Governor&#8217;s Cup on April 10, 2013. The  Donald W. Reynolds Governor&#8217;s Cup is one of the most prestigious business plans in America.</p>
<p style="text-align: left">CATCH-22 team members James Rutherford, Ryan Guinee, Robert Grasby, and Brandon Burroughs, along with their team advisor, Richard Crane, won 1st prize in the amount of $25,000 for their undergraduate business plan that will create a liquid organic fertilizer from an undesirable fish that has invaded the Mississippi River Basin.  They also won the Arkansas Farm Bureau Agriculture Award 1st place prize for $6,000.</p>
<p style="text-align: left">CATCH-22 is the first team from UALR to win the competition. They will represent UALR at the Tri-State Awards competition in Las Vegas this month and will compete against teams from Arkansas, Nevada, and Oklahoma for $118,000 in prizes.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>More than 300 faculty and staff members were recognized at the <a href="http://vimeo.com/64752060">First Annual GRAD Awards</a> on Wednesday, April 24 for their efforts to help students succeed.  The award and reception are a part of the Chancellor&#8217;s Student Success Initiative, a program designed to increase student retention and graduation rates through mentoring and student development.</p>
<p>The faculty and staff members were chosen for the award based on the <a title="Grad Awards" href="http://ualr.edu/www/2013/04/16/grad-awards-to-pay-tribute-to-faculty-staff/">results </a>of three years of student graduation surveys. Students were asked to identify persons who went above and beyond to help them throughout their educational experience and to reach their ultimate goal of graduation.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>UALR&#8217;s Diversity Council will host our &#8220;Brown Bag Lunch and Learn&#8221; series event for the month of May on <strong>Thursday the 9th from 11:30 &#8211; 1:00</strong> in<strong> room C</strong> of the Donaghey Student Center.</p>
<p><strong>We are pleased to be rolling the results of the Diversity Survey for both faculty/staff and for students!  Please come and hear about the survey, and take part in a discussion of the state of diversity at UALR.</strong></p>
<p>Our Brown Bag Lunch and Learn events typically take place the first Thursday of each month and will feature presentations from faculty, staff, and students from across campus. Please encourage your students to also attend. Also, please be aware that you can <a href="http://ualr.edu/chancellor/diversity/proposal-form/">submit a proposal for a future Brown Bag Lunch and Learn</a>, or <a href="http://ualr.edu/chancellor/diversity/questions/">ask us a question</a> any time.  After our May session, we will be in hiatus until September.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>On Thursday, March 28, the <a href="http://clintonschool.uasys.edu/center-on-community-philanthropy/about-us/">Center on Community Philanthropy</a> at the Clinton School of Public Service hosted the third annual Race and Equity Summit commemorating the <em>15th anniversary of President Bill Clinton&#8217;s One America in the 21st Century</em> <a href="https://www.ncjrs.gov/pdffiles/173431.pdf">initiative on race</a>. The Center of Community Philanthropy also released its second edition compendium featuring essays by previous scholars-in-residence, including Chancellor Joel E. Anderson.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>On Thursday, March 28, UALR hosted the <a href="http://ualr.edu/race-ethnicity/press/1389-2/">10th Annual Racial Attitudes in Pulaski County Conference</a> in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall on the main campus. The focus this year was crime and punishment. The conference featured a panel of local experts who addressed several issues related to the Arkansas criminal justice system.  Chancellor Joel E. Anderson also announced the launch of a <a href="http://ualr.edu/race-ethnicity/research/about/racial-attitudes/">new web site</a> that provides all ten years of Racial Attitudes survey data for use by the general public. A strategy luncheon in the Donaghey Student Center for participants followed.</p>
<p>Priscilla J. McChristian, Interim Director of the <a href="ualr.edu/race-ethnicity">Institute on Race and Ethnicity</a>, urged participants to take the information they received at the conference and use it to help promote positive change in the community.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>UALR&#8217;s Diversity Council will host our &#8220;Brown Bag Lunch and Learn&#8221; series event for the month of April on next Thursday, April 4th <strong>from noon &#8211; 1:00</strong> in<strong> room G</strong> of the Donaghey Student Center.  Our featured speaker for the month will be<strong> Rabbi Eugene Levy; Retired Rabbi/Adjunct Professor in Religion</strong>. In addition to his many accomplishments, Rabbi Levy was a co-founder of the Arkansas Interfaith Alliance and has been a stalwart on social justice since his arrival to Little Rock in 1987.  The title of Rabbi Levy&#8217;s presentation is <strong>&#8220;The Many Flavors of Judaism.&#8221;</strong> He will discuss differences and similarity among Jewish populations and the relation of the Jewish community to the society at large.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>UALR&#8217;s Diversity Council will host our &#8220;Brown Bag Lunch and Learn&#8221; series event for the month of March on next Thursday, March 7th from noon &#8211; 1:00 in room G of the Donaghey Student Center.  Our featured speaker this month will be Gwendolyn Middleton, M.A, M.P.A; Assistant Director of the McNair Scholars Program.  Ms. Middleton will discuss &#8220;Generational Diversity in Today&#8217;s Workplace.&#8221;  </p>
<p>The presentation will discuss the generational make-up of today’s workplace.  Baby Boomers, Generation X (The Busters), Generation Y (The Millennials) and Generation Z (the Digitals) will be identified and defined.  A comparative analysis will discuss the differences and commonalities that exist between the generations. Understanding differences that may exist will open discussion on how members of each group can begin to understand the other groups and form a more cohesive and tolerant work environment.</p>
<p>Please come out to participate in the discussion and meet the members of the council. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Green Dot at UALR has officially launched. A program aimed to promote safety and community, Green Dot is a violence prevention initiative that encourages members of a community to be active bystanders in an effort to eliminate instances of power-based violence. The program operates on the premise that &#8220;no one has to do everything, but everyone has to do something.&#8221;</p>
<p>Chancellor Joel E. Anderson and the senior leadership team distributed cookies and information about the program to students in the Donaghey Student Center on Tuesday, February 19. Activities will continue throughout the week, including Karaoke Night on Thursday, February 21 in the Donaghey Student Center.
