Dr. Zhao’s Work Highlighted in JACS

Dr. Zhao and Dr. Helen Tu (Recent Ph.D. graduate from UALR) have had their research highlighted. This work was done in collaboration with Stanford University and deals with their recent successes in separation of carbon nanotubes.

UALR Research Highlighted in Science News

The September 8th issue of Science News highlights work done at UALR researchers from Chemistry and GIT. Drs. Gaffney and Marley have been working on aerosol optical properties as well as determining their sources and removal rates using natural radionuclides. The article was written as a summary of some of the research on the Megacity Aerosol Experiment - Mexico City presented by UALR at the American Geophysical Union Joint Assembly meeting in May of 2006 in Acapulco, highlighting efforts supported by the Department of Energy’s Atmospheric Science Program. Dr. Gaffney is the Lead Scientist for the MAX-Mex study that was part of MILAGRO.

Drs. Gaffney and Marley Receive Appreciation Awards from DOE

Drs. Jeff Gaffney and Nancy Marley were honored by the Department of Energy’s Office of Science for twenty-seven and twenty years of research, respectively, as well as their efforts in the DOE Global Change Education Program by Mr. Rickey Petty of the Climate Change Research Division of Biological and Environmental Research in the DOE Office of Science.

Dr. Milton Constantin of Oak Ridge Associated Universities was also honored.

Professor Shaikh’s Research Highlighted in C&E News

Professor Ali Shaikh’s research reported at the August National Meeting in Boston was highlighted in C&E News. The research focused on identifying new markers for helping to identify and track mountain lions using biomarkers from their bile acids. The work was done in collaboration with Dr. Gary Heidt (UALR-Biology) and Ms. Jennifer Shirley (recent M.S. degree from UALR).

Mary Good Wins First McMath Award

Dr. Mary Good - Donaghey Distinguished Professor of Chemistry and Dean of the UALR College of Engineering and Information Technology will be awarded the First McMath Lifetime Achievement Award on June 28th in Little Rock. Details.
