Doctoral Alumnus - Dr. Helen Tu’s Research Highlighted in C&E News

Dr. Xiaomin (Helen) Tu and Dr. Ming Zheng of DuPont Central Research & Development, together with researchers at Lehigh University, Dr. Suresh Manohar and Dr. Anand have demonstrated DNA’s molecular properties can be used to sort Single Walled Nanotubes (Nature 2009, 460, 250).

Dr. Tu recently graduated from UALR with her Ph.D. in Applied Science (Chemistry) under the direction of Dr. Wei Zhao.

Dept. Awards Announced - Award Ceremony Friday April 17, 2009

Dr. Robert Steinmeier, Chair of the Dept. Awards Committee, announced the winners for this years awards. A complete list of people to be honored at the CSAM awards can be found here. Award winning graduating undergrads include Mr. Sam Collom who also was selected by CSAM as the College Outstanding graduating BS. Ms. Celeste Cole who has been Past ACS Student Affiliate President was selected by the Department as the outstanding graduating BA student.  Ms. Cole has also been doing undergraduate research with Dr. Tito Viswanathan and she will be working at the FDA laboratory in Pine Bluff upon graduation.

Outstanding MS graduate was Mr. Gunawan Gunawan, who completed his thesis work on natural radioactivity under direction of Dr. Jeff Gaffney.

Mr. Shawn Bourdo, soon to be Dr. Shawn Bourdo!, was selected as outstanding graduating Ph.D. student. Shawn has done an outstanding job working on nanomaterial chemistry under the direction of Dr. Tito Viswanathan.

CSAM Selects Sam Collom - Outstanding BS Graduate for College

Mr. Sam Collom has been selected by the College of Science and Mathematics as the Outstanding Graduating Student - BS. Sam has done an outstanding job in obtaining his ACS Accredited BS degree and has been involved in undergraduate research with Dr. Anindya Ghosh on Green Chemistry projects. Congratulations SAM!

Dr. Jerry Darsey Awarded Michael J. Fox Foundation Grant

Dr. Jerry Darsey, Professor of Chemistry, and his research group are working on computational chemistry approach to working on finding a cure for Parkinsons Disease.
