UALR Children International is one of 12 AmeriCorps programs across Arkansas. AmeriCorps, a national network, engages more than 70,000 Americans in service each year to meet critical needs in areas of education, the environment, public safety and homeland security. AmeriCorps is part of the Arkansas Division of Volunteerism and housed under the Arkansas Service Commission.

The AmeriCorps Next Move Program is an extentsion of UALR’s commitment to service and community engagement. Last year, 25 AmeriCorps members served 11,406 hours. They worked one-on-one with elementary and middle school students to build academic competence, improve self-esteem and develop leadership skills.

What are AmeriCorps members doing?

When it comes to serving, AmeriCorps members may choose several options. They can complete 450, 675 or 900 service hours during the year. Most volunteers receive a modest monthly living allowance over the course of their one year of service. In exchange for service, AmeriCorps members are eligible for Education Awards that can be used to attend college or repay qualified student loans.

Are you eligible?

Here are the following criteria AmeriCorps members must meet:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • At least 18 years old
  • U.S. citizen or legal U.S. resident
  • Current and valid driver’s license
  • Drug free and able to pass criminal history checks
  • Reliable transportation
