Alumni Profile: Oliver Sobik
German native Oliver Sobik feels his UALR decision is already paying off. Sobik chose the metropolitan university “because of its professional MBA program and its central location in Little Rock, which provides lots of great networking possibilities and more chances to find internships/jobs.
“My hopes and expectations have been more than met and maybe even surpassed,” said Sobik.
“The UALR faculty, and especially Brian Henderson, are a great help and valuable resource to me as a student. Through events such as Cafe MBA I hope to make even more networking connections before I graduate in May 2012. I am convinced that coming to UALR was the best choice for me as far as chances for future internships and jobs are concerned. The Professional Edge Series in the COB, as well as the emails that Mr. Henderson sends out about job and internship opportunities, are extremely helpful in building some of the skills we need when we enter the job market and keep us informed about the opportunities that are currently out there,” he added.
Originally from Göttingen, Germany, Sobik received his undergraduate degree in economics with an international track emphasis last year from the University of Central Arkansas.
He is working as a graduate assistant at UALR’s Institute for Economic Advancement in the labor education program, where he is responsible for maintaining the customer database. Sobik assists staff members by preparing and organizing materials for workshops and seminars, creating brochures, and emailing customers about upcoming courses.
“Once I graduate, I am looking to join a company with a competitive work environment in which I can keep learning, make a difference, be influential, and climb up the ladder. I believe that there is an ongoing learning experience at the job, and I want to learn as much as possible and as a result make myself a valuable member to the company,” he said.
Even though his family is in Germany, Sobik hopes to find a job opportunity and stay here in the U.S. “By staying here I am hoping to face more opportunities and make the most out all the hard work I have put into my education.”
