| Teachers of Tomorrow (TOT) | |
| The primary purpose of the TOT program is to increase the number of secondary students interested in entering the teaching profession. TOT Clubs exist in several of the middle schools and high schools in the Little Rock School District, North Little Rock School District, and the Pulaski County Special School District. TOT programs offer classes for secondary students interested in becoming teachers. Scholarships have been provided to former club members who pursued careers in teaching by enrolling in teacher preparation programs.
UALR is one of four universities in the state that collaborates with the TOT programs in the state. For more than a decade, UALR has been an active partner with school districts’ TOT programs. Faculty members from UALR have served on the governing committees for TOT. In addition, they have been involved in the preparation of a specialized curriculum for secondary students interested in becoming teachers, evaluated the effectiveness of the TOT program, and developed a strategy to link TOT alumni to the Student National Education Association. Presently, the UALR College of Education hosts a TOT website and online database for clubs in local school districts. Development of the website was supervised by the Director of the College of Education’s EAST lab (Environmental and Spatial Technology) and completed by students who were awarded EAST scholarships to attend UALR. |
