People
A job title is only capitalized when it immediately precedes a person’s name. If the title follows the name or stands alone, it is not capitalized:
Examples:
Dean of Students Preston Slayden organized the event.
Preston Slayden, dean of students, organized the event.
Dean Slayden organized the event.
The dean organized the event.
Assistant Professor of Journalism Sonny Rhodes led the panel discussion.
Sonny Rhodes, a journalism professor, led the panel discussion.
Departments, Offices, Committees, and Boards
Capitalize the formal names of departments, offices, committees, boards, and institutions, but do not capitalize informal names:
Examples:
The Department of Criminal Justice is composed of ten faculty members.
She works for the criminal justice department at UALR.
The department is developing a fundraising campaign.
The Office of Campus Life is organizing that event.
You can pick up materials from the campus life office.
Buildings and Places
The names of buildings or rooms that include proper names are capitalized in the full and short length:
Examples:
The event will be held at the Ted and Virginia Bailey Alumni Center.

The center is located on the UALR campus.
The Calvin R. Ledbetter Jr. Assembly Hall is located in the DSC.

Academics
Do not capitalize majors, programs, or concentrations unless they are a “brand name” or a standalone proper noun. Example:

Seasons
Lowercase fall, winter, spring, and summer unless referring to a formal name: Examples:
