Punctuation

When quoting a source, place the comma inside the quotation marks prior to the source identification. If the source has already been identified, and it is the end quote, place the period inside the quotation marks.

Example:
“A new season is beginning today,” UALR Chancellor Joel Anderson said. “Little Rock is now poised to serve as a national model for improving educational and developmental outcomes for children in high-poverty neighborhoods.”

UALR Style adheres to the serial comma. (This is an exception to AP Style.) When using commas in a series, a comma is placed before the “and.”

Example: Chancellor Anderson greeted faculty, staff, students, and guests to the event.

Names followed by Jr., Sr., or a roman numeral do not have a comma after the last name:

Examples:
Martin Luther King Jr.
Waldo Aloysius Johnston III
